Statement: Juan LaFonta on "Don't Ask Don't Tell"
President Obama is taking definitive steps towards a repeal of the discriminatory “Don't ask Don't Tell” policy. The sincerity of his commitment toward repealing the policy was confirmed during his recent State of the Union address . Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has formed a commission that will, over the next year, review the best way to move forward in repealing the law. Additionally, the Pentagon has directed the panel to report in the next 45 days a means to more equitably enforce the policy while it remains in place.
Repealing legislation such as “ Don't Ask Don't Tell ” means finally achieving equality for the brave men and women in uniform who risk their lives to protect our great country and I support a full repeal of “ Don't Ask Don't Tell .” |
